How to read the forecast

What to check before leaving the marina

Before every sail — even a short one — it's worth checking the forecast. The sea around Blue Marina Ashdod is pleasant most of the year, but wind and waves change quickly, and a one-minute check can make the sail far safer and more enjoyable. These are the four figures worth looking at:

Wind speed (in knots)Wind is measured in "knots". The lower the number — the calmer the sea. Beginners prefer light wind, and open water requires more experience as the wind strengthens.

GustsA gust is a momentary strengthening of the wind. Note the gap between the steady wind and the gusts — a large gap indicates a choppy, unstable sea.
🌊
Wave heightWave height (in meters) determines the ride. Low waves = a smooth sail; high waves require better boat control and skill.
🧭
Wind directionWind direction affects departure and return to the marina and route planning. The arrows on the map show where the wind is blowing from.
