Independent sailing in destinations like Greece, Croatia, Italy or Spain is an accessible dream — if you have the right license. Most charter companies will require a recognized international license, and sometimes documented experience as well.
What do you need?
An international license such as ISSA or the Canadian license (PCOC) is accepted in almost every charter destination. Some companies will also ask for a Sailing CV documenting prior experience.
Tips before you book
- Check in advance with the charter company which documents are required for the specific destination.
- If you have no experience — it is worth starting with a guided cruise before sailing independently.
- Make sure the license is valid and that you have digital copies available.
