How to Get a Skipper License (Mashit 30) — Full Guide

A skipper license — officially named Mashit 30 — lets you operate a yacht (vessel) up to 24 meters in coastal sailing. It is the most sought-after license for anyone who wants to sail a sailing or motor yacht, in Israel and abroad. Here is everything you need to know about the process.

Who can apply?

The course is open to anyone, with no prior experience required. A medical exam (the "blue form") is required, including an eye test and a general check-up, arranged at the start.

The stages of the process

1. Registration and consultation — we coordinate the schedule and the track (full course or self-study for the theory).
2. Theory — you study seamanship, coastal navigation and mechanics, and practice until you feel ready for the Shipping Authority exams.
3. Theory exams — you sit the official exams. You can practice the theory with us in advance.
4. Practical training — practicing yacht handling: sailing under sail and motor, mooring, navigation and troubleshooting.
5. Practical exam and receiving the license — after passing, you receive the Mashit 30 certificate.

An international license as well

We recommend combining it with an ISSA international license or the Canadian license (PCOC), which let you charter and operate a yacht in almost any charter destination in the world.
